HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR IDEAL FLOOR RUG

A floor rug can be one of the most confusing pieces to buy, with size and placement being two of the most common areas of concern. To clear things up, this article is a buying guide that to presents you with some tips on how to buy the right one

RULE NUMBER 1: MEASURE YOUR SPACE

Before buying, thinking about the space is a must. Do you want your carpet to fill the whole room? Do you want your carpet to define your furniture pieces within a larger room? Do you want to add colour and texture to a space?

Once you make your decision, it's time to measure the space.

Usually, rug sizes are standard, ranging from 120 x 180cm right up to 270 x 330cm. But exceptions exist of course, depending of the shape of the rug.

LIVING AREAS

For a seating area, there are a few options.

A large rug with all the furniture sitting on it will make your room feel more larger. If your rug or your budget doesn’t stretch that far, just put the front legs of your sofa and chairs on the rug to anchor the space.

A floating rug can also work as long as it’s in proportion to the furniture.

A smaller rug will draw the space in and make it cosy, a larger choice will make the space seem bigger.

DINING AREAS

If you’re placing a rug under a dining table, it should be wide enough that the chairs are completely on the rug. I would recommend that the rug sticks out an extra 60cm each side of the table so that guests sitting at the table stay inside the limit of the rug.

The rug chosen under dining tables is recommended to be good quality and durable because of the stains, food and beverages.

BEDROOMS

For a united and cozy look, place a large rug under the bed remembering that only pattern or colour at the outer part of the rug will be visible.

If you prefer a more layered, eclectic look, use smaller rugs on either side and/or at the foot of the bed.

Avoid boldly coloured or overly patterned rugs in the bedroom. This is a room of rest and relaxation, so i recomment that the tones and patterns stay subdued and calm.
