THE MUSIC BENCH: the sound of design in Mar Mikhael

All around the world, music goes along wherever people are, whether at home or at a park, at the metro or on a bus, on a sidewalk or on the streets.

Public spaces open their hands to listening ears...ANYWHERE. This is not the case nowadays in the streets of Beirut city.

In our case, Beirut has been through corruptions on all kinds of levels. Even though we are known to be the most outgoing people, but being out and about on the streets isn't a common thing yet in our society. This is the result of unsafe streets, on all levels speaking. But Urban pins, have decided to invade the streets of Beirut, launching the project at the Vendome stairs in Mar Mikhael on the 12th of September 015, by an urban acupuncture, which is the combination of contemporary urban design and chinese traditional acupuncture. The reason behind this is to create and build small urban interventions that will make a big impact socially and environmentally.

On the 12th of September, at 5pm, the Vendome stairs in Mar Mikhael had musical ears...and so long...

What did they do?

They started by designing and executing their first project out of four.

The location chosen was the Vendome stairs in Mar mikhael.

This project consists of an urban furniture, basically a bench that has a double use:

1. A bench for daily pedestrians.

2. A bench that offers musical instruments for musicians.

Built-in musical instruments are designed by specific materials to serve sustainability and good sound.

The minds and hearts behind this amazing project

The founder and designer of the musical bench is the architect Sabine Saba.

Brut l'atelier offered the wood.

The wood crafter, executer and sound engineer is Maher Mikhael.
